Second units or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are second small dwellings on the same grounds as a single-family house. They can be an apartment over the garage, a small house in the backyard or an attached apartment, built on any residential lot. HAT is interested in ADUs because they allow people to age in-place, generate income for homeowners and offer the community a quick way to provide more affordable housing. HAT’s first project was an informative 2-hour workshop on building ADUs in Fort Bragg and Mendocino County. Watch the workshop video or download the program.
